PureGuardian H8000B 120-Hour Elite Ultrasonic Warm and Cool Mist Humidifier with Digital Smart Mist Sensor, 2-Gallons

The 120-hour Ultrasonic Warm and Cool Mist Humidifier guards against problems caused by dry air in the home. It features an easy to fill large 2 gallon tank, ideal for use in large rooms. Unlike other humidifiers that grow slimy mold on the water tank surface, Silver Clean Protection is embedded in the tank to fight the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the water tank. Thanks to ultrasonic technology, it disperses a fine warm or cool mist into the air, which can be extended using the wands. It is ultra-quiet making it ideal to have on while you sleep. Smart mist sensor monitors the level of humidity in the room and adjusts to your selected level. The humidifier is equipped with an easy to use digital display, a night light, timer and 3 speed mist control. A low water indicator light lets you know when it’s time to refill the water tank. PureGuardian humidifiers create a better home environment for those suffering from colds, allergies and dry skin. Note: Run time is based off of running the unit on low setting and cool mist, also depends on atmospheric conditions.
- Large 2 gallon tank provides up to 120-hours of run time, includes extended reach wands which are great to use in large rooms
- Ultrasonic Technology quietly disperses a fine warm or cool mist providing relief from the dry air
- Silver Clean Protection fights the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the water tank
- Smart mist sensor automatically adjusts output to reach desired humidity level
- Electronic touch control with digital display options include night light, 12-hour timer and 3 speed settings

Very effective at humidifying, but has some minor issues,
Regarding the warm-mist setting, it speeds up the humidification of the room. Because it heats the water to only 80 degrees before it vaporizes it, I can’t imagine it would be very effective if the water starts out warm (especially during the summer), but in cold temperatures I could understand how it might help. (The mist itself feels almost the same whether you’re using warm or cold mist.)
I like the other features. One is variable mist output – I can adjust the amount of mist that comes out. On the fastest mist setting, running constantly, a full 2-gallon water tank lasts a little under 2 days (~43 hours, actually). You can make it even faster by removing the attachments. I haven’t tried the lowest mist setting for extended periods of time, but based on the level of mist coming out, I bet it would last the full 120 hours as advertised.
Probably the most useful feature is the desired humidity level; you can set the humidity anywhere from 40% to 75% (in 5% increments), or you can tell the humidifier to run constantly. There’s also an optional timer, so I can tell the humidifier to turn off automatically after a period of time. The room’s current humidity is displayed on the screen.
When “auto” is enabled, the humidifier automatically uses warm mist, keeps the nightlight on, and sets the desired humidity to 50%. Kind of pointless, because those are all features that I can easily set myself.
I really like the vertical extension. It’s basically a pipe which takes the mist about 4 feet above the ground before releasing it into the air. This allows for more even humidification, because the mist is heavier than air and sinks downward. There’s also another attachment which goes on the end of the tube, and can be used to direct the mist. I prefer not to use it, because it restricts the airflow, so a lot of the mist collects on the inside and runs back down into the humidifier. This slows down the humidification process.
The thing I find most annoying about the humidifier is that it has a bright blue display that won’t turn off. If I’m running it in my bedroom at night, I have to cover the display with some cardboard so it won’t keep me up. The display is bright enough to illuminate objects in my room. It wouldn’t be so bad if they used green or red light, but blue is the specific color that prevents sleep. I hate to think how bright the nightlight would be, but thankfully that can be turned off.
Another problem I noticed is that the water in the vaporization area gets a slight off-odor if it sits for a couple days without running it. The obvious solution here is to pour out the water when it isn’t being used, but now I wonder whether the inside of the tank is the only part of the unit with antibacterial properties.
So to summarize, it’s a pretty cool humidifier (pun intended), and has a lot of useful features, but it does have minor issues.
Pros:
+ Very quiet (regardless of the settings).
+ Adjustable mist output. Nozzles can be removed if necessary, so the mist will come out faster.
+ Large 2-gallon tank lasts almost 2 days when running at highest setting, 5 days at lowest setting.
+ The humidifier maintains a specific humidity, or can be told to run continuously.
+ Comes with a vertical extension, which brings the mist 4 feet up into the air.
+ Cool mist will slightly cool the room in Summer.
+ Unit without water is very light, making storage easy.
+ Has an optional built-in nightlight.
Cons:
– The bright blue display cannot be turned off at night.
– Only the tank seems to have antibacterial properties; the other parts of the humidifier are unprotected.
– Uses ultrasound, so water is not sterilized. If tap water is used, minerals are released into the air.
– The buttons respond to a very light touch, and can be activated when accidentally brushed against.
