Sounded great, but melted, November 26, 2010

We followed all of the directions on the box (including the 6 oz. of water to prevent hotspots). We set the roaster oven to 325F. (The bags say they are good until 400F or 20degrees below maximum for the roaster. Oven roaster max was 450F.) By the time the roaster preheated, the bag was melting in big holes on the sides (not at the edge where it touched the lid etc). So we immediately pulled the remainder of the bag out and began melted plastic removal. Needless to say this delayed our turkey preparation and increased our clean up time rather than saving it.

I have used these roaster ovens for years. If this product did what it said, I think it would be a great investment. Since it doesn’t, I won’t be buying more.

I did try to call the company before posting this review. I had to leave a message and no one has called me back yet.

    A helpful thought., November 15, 2012

I gave this 3 stars as no one else had and I simply want to share a thought about this product. I am about to buy a roaster and have been doing extensive reading about the different brands, models, (multi function slow cookers like the cuisinart and ninja as well) and, the many comments about each of them.

Some people love these bags and even more have horror stories. The instructions say to put some water at the bottom of the insert pan so the bag does not come in contact with the hot spots.

If I were a gambling man, I would bet that everyone with a negative review owns the popular brand Nesco, which has the heating element on the sides and not the bottom. This, in my opinion is a superior design as the weight of the food is not pressed against the heat causing burnt on the bottom food.
However, it also means that there is no possible way to keep the bag away from the hot spots. They will not work with the Nesco

So, which is more important to you? The easy clean up, or the Nesco quality? Either way, you have to take the bad with the good.

I am bummed I won’t be able to keep my appliance in spotless brand new looking condition, as I am going with quality. Probably better off with what I am reading about plastics lately. What I AM going to do, is buy the lesser priced Nesco roaster with the enamel insert and buy the stainless steel insert separate. The price of the two is under $10.00 more than the model with the stainless steel pan. This way, for lower temp cooking of icky sticky items I can use the enamel insert. For high temp browning and roasting of the Who-ville holiday beast, I can use the stainless steel insert and not worry about over heating the more delicate non stick surface.

It will also be handy to slow cook beans for instance, take the insert out and maybe in the oven on warm, while I brown and roast big bird, stuffed of course, with baked potatoes and carrots, onions around his sides. This is the majority of a holiday feast right there.

I am also getting the Nesco 3 tray insert. Fill em with 1, entree, 2, veggies, and 3, beans while the remainder of them wait in the warm oven, or elsewhere out of the way, until a tray goes empty. I think people will enjoy being able pick as the day goes on. You may have other foods in mind, but maybe this is fueling your imagination on how you want to go about your cooking/serving.

    Hope this helps!

Are you kidding me???, December 14, 2011

This review is from: PanSaver Electric Roaster Liners, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
We bought a new electric roasting pan at Menards a few days ago. A friend was raving about how great their turkeys turn out using their large electric roasting pan, and we just had to try it. Then we got a turkey on sale for 59 cents a pound (an after Thanksgiving special) and defrosted it.
Today we cleaned the roaster, let it “burn off” the factory smells as suggested, then followed the instructions of these “electric roaster liners” and put in 2 cups of water, put the plastic bag over the water, and then heated up the roaster with the turkey in it, and set at 325 degrees.
Then I decided to go on Amazon, and just see if there were any reviews for these bags. WOW!! So many disappointed people.
My husband was trying to take a nap, and heard me whispering, “Oh my God”, “oh no”, “are you kidding me?”, as I read the reviews, and he asked, “what’s wrong?”
The turkey had only been cooking for 30 minutes, so we checked it, and sure enough, there were holes in the bag on all four sides. The turkey wasn’t even hot yet, but the bag was melting away. We took the bird out, put it in our home oven, and TRYED to get the plastic off the sides.
If only I had read the reviews BEFORE I had used the bag. It was only 30 minutes too late. I will never, never used a product again without checking on Amazon first.
Although I did try and check out the roaster we bought, a Home Cookin’ 18 quart roaster by Weather Works, but no one has reviewed that on Amazon yet.
Now we’re going to return the ruined roasting pan to Menards, and my husband is going to demand our money back, since they were selling the roasters, with these cooking bags sitting there on the shelf right next to them. It’s too bad for them they chose to sell these crap bags along with your roasting pan purchase.
Darn, only 30 minutes from saving myself all this trouble.
Thanks for being here, Amazon, you saved me from ruining the entire meal! My husband called the 1-800 # to complain, but no one answered or called us back.
OK, update: The company called us back! My husband spoke to Connie. She was very helpful, and suggested we soak the pan in hot water and Dawn dishwashing liquid. My husband did this, and was able to get most of the plastic off. She said it’s not uncommon for new roasters to have this problem. Unfortunately, I could not get past the whole plastic melted on the turkey thing, so we through the turkey out. I know, that’s wasteful, but I’m a nurse, and we teach patients to not use plastic wrap that is touching the food in the microwave, something about the plastic leaching chemicals into the food, and I’ve had cancer, so I take no chances. So, Kudos to the company for getting back to us. If you have to call, ask for Connie.
