I have been looking around for a new toaster oven, as my old one, while not yet dead, was looking its age (discolored, burned-on food that would NOT come off!) and saw one of these at Walmart. What I really liked was the fact that it would hold a 9 x 13 baking pan, which would be very handy in the summer when I did not want to heat up my kitchen using my big oven. What sold me on this model was Amazon offering it almost $20 cheaper than my local stores! As always, I can count on Amazon for quick, safe delivery. Upon unpacking it, the oven looks as nice on my counter as I hoped it would, and performs pretty darn well also. No rotisserie feature, like on my old oven, but that also helps it stay cleaner inside! It works very well in reheating biscuits, baking potatoes and the other tasks I use a toaster oven for. I particularly like the crumb tray which slides out from the outside–much easier to clean that way. My only qualm is the fact that the top can get very hot when baking at high temps for a long length of time, and the door, which has clear glass, does not snap shut tight like I would wish, though, to be honest, I haven’t seen a toaster oven door ever shut like that. All in all, I am very pleased with this toaster oven, and VERY glad I got it at Amazon.

Good appliance, just consider the heat, July 25, 2014

I’ve been using this model Oster at the office for about a year and decided to get one at home to replace the aging toaster. It’s small enough to toast some bread without causing the guilt firing up a full-sized oven would. But, it’s also a good size for actual baking or roasting. I’ve made 12″ pizzas in it, I’ve roasted chicken roulades in it, I’ve baked bread in it, broiled asparagus, toasted garlic bread, etc.

The only thing I’d forewarn is that the exterior can get very hot (that’s why this is 4/5 star from me). Treat it like a real oven including that extra caution and have a pot holder or oven mitt(s) handy. I’ve burned myself more than once reaching behind the oven to unplug the office coffee maker to free an outlet. Keep it far away from children. If you don’t have counter space to fit this with enough buffer for young ones I would not recommend it. It not only gets hot but is very easy to turn on. The knobs are large and easy to turn (a plus for adults!).

Aside from that, you should consider what goes around it. It will heat anything nearby; for example the cabinet above it if there’s little clearance. Keep that in mind when you’re thinking about installing it in your space. I use this as a plus as this oven came with a roasting pan. I put whatever I want warmed on top of the oven, using the pan if needed, and let the heat do its thing.

Two of the biggest sellers to me is the fact that A) the oven is small enough to change temperatures quickly and B) it can heat at a lower temperature than my conventional oven. I get up early in the morning to go to work. So, I make bread starter overnight and pop dough in the KitchenAid to knead before I head off to work. This oven can heat low enough that I can put a small cup of water in it and use it as a proofer in the morning. It’s big enough to fit two regular loaves of bread if you keep the water cup small. When I’m ready to bake, I take all my stuff out and set it to bake at 450. It takes little time to heat to that. And, when I pop the loaves in, depending on the bread type, I can turn the oven down to get a good bake. Those two things are what got me to consider having one of my own. It’s more versatile than a toaster or microwave and less hassle than an oven for single meals or small baking projects.

    Overall, I like it…, February 11, 2015

OK, I had an Oster Toaster Oven for a decade, and was very happy with it, til it started being all over the place on making toast. I wanted a new one, preferably a bigger one, and wanted to try the Convection thing, too, so this was a no brainer for a choice.

    Pros:
    * It looks nice, and even though it is big, it still fits under the cabinets with room to spare.
    * It’s big inside too. I put a big 13″ x 10″ foil pan in there for brownies, and it fit fine, with room to spare.
    * The big glass door lets you see inside easily.
    * It heats up fast, but doesn’t heat up as much on the outside as my old one did.
    * The door does not “seal”, but it also doesn’t seem to lose heat as much as my old one did.
    * Door does not “slam” shut, & something stops it just short of the counter on opening.
    * The knobs are easy to control, and don’t get hot, as I feared they might.
    * The drip tray is great. Easy in/out, easy clean, and covers the entire bottom with only a 1/4″ perimeter exposure.
    * The rack is adjustable to two levels. (Pro and con)
    * Makes nice toast quickly, if you remember to put the rack in the middle. : )
    * Convection works, just not sure how well, yet. Still experimenting with it. Time will tell.

    Cons:
    * Heats up fast – and HOT. I set it to 350, but it shot up to 450 in minutes. Use a thermometer – it’s all over the place on temp, but seems to stabilize once you get it settled on the temp you want.
    * Shelf rack is kind of flimsy, given the fact that this is supposed to do full size baking. My glass bowl full of custard made it sag, so now I only use foil pans.
    * Burned myself on the door repeatedly, til I realized I was accustomed to the old door handle, which was a “surround” handle, never letting your hand come in contact with the hot door. This handle is much bigger, and it does not get hot, but it does not protect you from the hot door either. Be careful. Ouch!
    * You have to remember which shelf height works best for your intended use. Seems silly, but if you’re accustomed to a regular toaster oven, it’s easy to forget, and end up with dark toast on the bottom, and barely toasted tops, unless you remember to put it back in the middle for toasting.
    * It’s hard to read the dials. They look cool, but these old eyes have trouble seeing the tiny dents in the dials that show where it’s pointing. I need a flashlight to see it sometimes.
    * Minor thing, but it doesn’t pull the rack out with the door opening. I miss that, but understand it can’t – due to an adjustable shelf. Too bad, I liked that feature.

Overall, I like it. It is different from a regular toaster oven, though, so plan on some user-error mistakes during the learning curve. : )
The only big thing is the temp variations, so I use an oven thermometer in there when baking. My brownies turned out great, and the custard – well, not so much. Still learning, and experimenting. Will update if anything significant changes my mind.
