   The same company makes a similar umbrella anchor, but is fully plastic. This one is a lot stronger (it’s metal) and while I prefer it over the plastic one, it does have one major fault: the hand grips to do the augering motion are somewhat awkward size and shaped (mostly the girth), so it’s not very comfortable to actually start twisting this. If you’re anchoring it into sand or something easy, then it’s not a big deal. Into anything more dense, then your hands feel it before you get done. It does, however, work as advertised, which is quite nice.

   The Oliasports Metal Beach Umbrella Anchor stand works great. This anchor is very sturdy and secures well into the sand. The anchor is made out of metal so I feel much more secure when securing it in. This anchor can be used to secure you umbrella, dog leash or flags. The umbrella opening is large enough to fit different size umbrellas and it has a thumbscrew to help secure them in the opening. I like that is metal as that tends to be more secure when anchoring in the ground than the plastic ones but now need to see how it weathers being metal. I think will be good just be sure to dry it off when done using it.

   As a beach native who appreciates a shady retreat from heavy sun, this umbrella stand is perfect. It’s very solid and durable but not unnecessarily heavy. It also has a nice stomp plate to help thread the anchor into the ground and the 3.5″ of thread will ensure your umbrella remains standing in wind, loose soil or sand. Finally, the top hole is adjustable to accommodate various sizes of umbrella poles and there’s a small flap of plastic inside that protects the umbrella pole from the tension screw and also adds a little extra security so the pole doesn’t lean.
