Review from someone who actually paid for it, March 21, 2016

Apparently the only people who write reviews on Amazon now get the product for free and give it a ‘fair’ review -that just happens by coincidence- to always be a 5 star review. Every. Single. Time.

I actually paid for the product. (/end rant)

OK we’ve had various airbeds for over 10 years. I usually buy the cheapest one I can find and it lasts much longer than I have a right to expect (usually 2-3 years) but they eventually start to leak. This is the first ‘hi-rise’ bed we’ve bought and the first bed greater than probably $28.

We just inflated it and the first impressions are pretty good. My wife likes it being higher. I really don’t care either way. It does seem more robust than my $12 ones I usually get.

One dislike for me is that the box is 3x the size of my little cheapo beds so make sure you have room to store it. I guess I should have thought of that before we ordered but I was focused more on the product than the storage. If storage is an issue this might not be your product. Also it’s heavier (15lbs) than the little beds and bulky. So take that into consideration.

The pump seemed a bit under powered but maybe I’m just impatient. (updated below) Having it built in is nice but this is not one of the auto pump kind that keep the bed inflated at a fixed level, you have to do that yourself.

The smell was ‘approaching bad’ in my book but take that with a gain of salt as I get more sensitive to that as I age. (If this helps in any way) I’d guess my sensitivity to the new product stink is about a 4 (out of 10) and I’d rank the smell about 4 out of 10. So not a deal breaker but I don’t want to lay on it for a few hours at least.

I’ll sleep on it for 2 days and update this review but so far first impressions good. I’m giving it 4 stars based on the fact I’m not sold the extra money, weight and bulk are worth it over cheapo mattresses. (I don’t mind being 5 inches on the floor but YMMV) It will have to be clearly better than cheapos to get that 5th star.

If this helped, feel free to click below to bump this over the spammers…. er paid reviewers I mean.

UPDATE: I love the paid reviewers all voting this down to try and hide it.

At any rate, I have to change one thing I said above, the pump is quick. Apparently whichever kid that was running it was doing something wrong.

On a distressing note, it developed a leak in about 3 days. Now that could have been a kid or something so maybe not the product’s fault, but still I’ve never lost a cheapo after 3 days. So the jury is out on that. We’re looking for the leak and I’ll update when I learn more. I’m not knocking it a star (still at 4) unless I have some reason to think it was the product’s fault.

Wow. Advances in Airbed Technology!, March 25, 2016

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)

Despite my husband’s strong objections, i requested to test out this airbed via Amazon’s Vine program. We had purchased four (FOUR!) airbeds in sequence over the past ten years, and had had enough with the leaking and the sagging and curiously heavy weight of the airbeds (thick plastics) making them hard to fold and store- they were not even all that cheap- and we ended up tossing them all out, one at a time, as they each died slow and terrible patched-up deaths. more than once did our guests wake up to find they were on a lifeless “air”bed skin on hard floor or carpet, and said they didn’t re-inflate because they didn’t want to wake the house… when our final one sprung a significant leak a few years ago, that was it. zero tolerance policy- and we’ve not had an airbed since. So it was w extreme prejudice that i tried this Intex Dura-Beam bed out. Mainly, i still craved the benefit of having a portable and storable bed to put in any room in the house when we had a lot of extra guests, without them having to sleep on the floor (ironic) or a couch (we have a big family, and we even run out of couch space).

So, i am now tentatively reporting that airbed technology has made some major advances since our last foray into this market, and i’m tempted to buy another one of these, provided this one holds up a few more months (my expectations are extremely low). Firstly, the package holding this bed was surprisingly small and light when i received it, and i couldn’t believe a queen airbed was in it, since our older ones were at least twice as large and heavy- really, they were just that much heavier. The plastic (or whatever fiber or composite material this is made of) on this bed is significantly more supple and thinner, yet sturdy enough to hold (they say) a max of 600 lbs/ 273 Kg. It easily held 400+ lbs of several of us testing this out. Secondly, the seams holding different portions of the bed together (heat melt) are also amazingly thin- maybe 3 mm along the top rim where the fuzzy top meets the more plasticy sides- so no sharp or hard pokey spots- they even thoughtfully turned those super thin seams downwards facing, so you can’t really feel them anyway. Thirdly, you don’t automatically slide straight towards the middle when you try to lie on this with your spouse. the internal vertical baffling/support they advertise (“Dura-Beam”) seems to work very well. when you lie on the bed, you actually feel pressure upwards into your lumbar region, which is a surprising and welcome effect.

Additionally, the pump is very powerful, compact and well designed. With our airbeds in the past, you’d had to have a separate pump, various attachments and hoses and batteries and you let the air out by unscrewing a cap or releasing a valve and other such nonsense that just created failure points and new areas of potential leakage. This Intex Dura-Beam bed pump is static, built into the bed, and you don’t open it up to let air out. it actually has a deflate function! and, it’s easy to use. the pump has a rotating donut controller with a marked (although hard to see) triangle that points to inflate (turn to the right) or deflate (turn 180 degrees back to the left). you basically plug it in (the plug comes out of a little compartment in the pump next to the donut-see pic), turn the rotating donut to inflate or deflate, and press the on/off switch. crazy easy. the hole part of the donut is the air intake, as well as where the air is pushed out.

I laid on this bed and inflated it from the floor w me on it. it took 2 minutes and 50 seconds to become extremely firm- i could tell the pitch (sound) of the pump began to rise slightly higher near the end, as it worked harder, but kept going. deflating it, i laid on the bed again, turned the donut dial to point the triangle to the left, and air started coming out of the donut hole, even without the pump functioning. after i turned on the pump, the air came out much faster, and the bed was pretty much vacuum sucked out of air in 3 min. (seems to take just a smidge longer to deflate). also, I do literally mean vacuum sucked–like one of those food savers. there was almost no air in there, and the plastic was stuck together. the sound of the pump is also equivalent to a typical vacuum cleaner level of noise when running either inflate or deflate.

pretty awesome so far. i would give this bed a 4 1/2 stars if i could. i am reserving the 1/2 star at this time, because it seems smaller than a queen bed. i put two standard sized pillows touching on the bed (see pic), and they reach all the way to both edges, unlike our mattress queens, where you still have some room on each side of the pillows. still, it’s a great bed. it also comes with a carry sac w handle, that easily fits the bed back in after deflating and folding back according to the directions. i’ll update if anything starts leaking. if there is no update, assume it is still…

Very comfortable dream bed, got two!, April 23, 2016

I got this air mattress as the queen set my son had was completely unsleepable after only 3 years. I paid a small fortune for it too.
Right now my daughter uses it when she stays with me and she love it.
It was impeccably easy to set up. Just take it out of the box. straighten it out, plug it in and within just a minute or two you have a comfy bed.
After 4 hours I put her set of queen sheets on it and it was still inflated and so cozy looking I had no resistance to lying on it myself.
WOW! I could drift away into a deep, peaceful sleep on this.
Let me mention this is so light I can pick it up or push it around to where I want it.
The queen sheets fit the entire bed so I suspect this is actually a full size – it’s actually obvious. That’s why I give this a 4 star rating. My sons queen was so big he could sleep corner to corner or side ways and have plenty of room.
I don’t think he can actually fit on this comfortably as he is a tall young man.
My conclusion is this works out great for us so I used the $20 gift card I received when I purchased this from a local store, I got a second one!
One for my son when he’s home from college. One for my daughter when she visits.
I have included some photos to give the idea of size. My daughter has the ‘pillow’ at the bottom so she can use it when playing video games.
I certainly do recommend this inexpensive airbed for those times you need one.
