I have been getting a lot of sediment on the bottom of my pool and purchased a new filter made by a different manufacturer that was a little cheaper than the Hayward filter. That did not help the problem I was having. The Hayward filter cured an ongoing problem and I will only use these in the future. Definitely worth the extra 20 bucks, as it does the job it is supposed to do.

There are all kinds of trees around my pool and it has a really hard time with pollen settling on the surface of the water. You have to run the filter constantly to stay ahead of it, especially in the early summer. We were keeping a spare filter just in case but this year we skimpped and thought we could clean one of our older ones. That plan didn’t work out and I needed a new filter in a hurry. This one is not the cheapest, but it is one of the best. I have never been disappointed in the Hayward filters. Works exactly as advertised and that is really all you can ask. It came fast, and was packed very sturdily. I need to get another one ASAP.

my water is better than I could have ever hoped for : but new filter bought right before the 2015 season is having problems…, July 2, 2014

07/02/14: I have been using this filter with an XStream 1500 for awhile now in my new above ground pool. As a first time pool owner, my water is better than I could have ever hoped for. Filtration is not of any issue, and the water is free of junk and debris and is crystal clear. I did have to replace the pressure gauge on the filter body after about a week (Hayward was great on providing the new gauge fast and at no charge), so I got to see how the filter looked after about 12 days of operation. Was doing a very good job capturing small debris. So far I could not be happier with this filter. No need for back washing is also a huge plus to me, as our water supply is of concern here in Texas, so anything I can do to waste as little as possible is the least I can do to help the problem. Filters are about $90, and are supposed to last a season, so I do not see that as a large burden given the enjoyment we are getting from the pool, the crystal clear water and the lower impact on the water supply.

I have friends who use sand filters on their pools and told me I would be sorry with my choice, as the cartridge filters were so expensive and don’t do as good of a job. They now see my pool and a few have taken down the model numbers to look at replacing their units with the XStream. No comparison in water quality IMHO.

I think it comes down to the typical Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge argument. I am sure all of the filter options do a fine job, but each will have positives and negatives that the user must weigh; from initial purchase price to season consumables (water usage for back wash, cartridge filters, sand media, DE media, etc) to water quality.

    Good luck with your pool!!

UPDATE 07/08/15: I ordered another one of the CCX1500RE filters for this season ($85+), but the filter pressures are not holding consistent, rising rapidly after initial installation from 14psi to 19psi within a couple of hours, and then to 25psi within 4-5 days at most. The original filter ran at 14psi, and took 2-3 weeks before raising the 6-7psi (to 20psi) signalling time to clean. It is almost like the filter media on the new filter is somehow collapsing internally.

I have talked to Hayward, and they say it is probably a faulty filter and to return it, but Amazon will not allow the return as it is beyond the 30 day return period. I doubt that Hayward customer support is going to do anything…So, at the $85+ cost, I would recommend that you maybe try the non-Hayward filters, which is going to be what I need to do. Still loving the pool, and love the filter when it runs the way it is supposed to. Back to using the old, original filter (still at 14psi BTW) until I get this sorted out, but maybe avoid Hayward filters as they may have produced some bad batches.
