Absolute hands down best pool cleaner made. Wow, March 27, 2015

A lot to review here, please like this review if u read it, as I am working hard on this one and appreciate it! Shipping was fast, for the unit in and it looked difficult to put together. So I did it that night and it wasn’t bad at all. 8 screws on the caddy, take the plastic off the unit and your ready to go.

The filters are a little hard to figure out which ones to use as they give u 4 fine particulae ones and 4 regular ones. I found using one filter with 2 fines and the other with 2 regulars works best.

The machine itself is very simple to get running, u have basically 3 buttons. Setting one is once a day for a week, button two is every other day for a week and button 3 is every 3rd day or something like that. I think everyone will probably use setting one, once a day, for a week. Then u have to manually press the select one again to get it to start another week. But this is worlds different than every other cleaner as u have to manually be there to start it each time, this one can do it’s own thing for a week without u being near! The greatest feature of it!

It does climb my liner pool all the way up the water line, as this is the true first cleaner that does that. Most others made it about 1/2 up the walls.

This has a computer that makes it not go over the same place and actually clean your entire pool not just hit and miss like most others! I can’t say good enough about this sweeper, I rarely put it on the caddy, only when we swim really and on/off the caddy is super quick!

A pool sweeper like this is a lot of money, but it is very well worth it in the end! Mine has the entire neighborhood drooling!

Great pool cleaner and fun to watch. This is brand new for 2011 so replacement filters are very very difficult to find. After spending a few hours with Maytronics, I found the parts numbers which you will need to order replacements.

    replacement cartridge – 9991425ASSY
    Spring cartridge – 9991408ASSY
    optional filter bag – 99954305ASSY

They gave me a parts desk of 877-372-6038

    UPDATE 5/31/15
The cleaner is still going strong starting this summer. I think that my cartridges need to be replaced soon after using the cleaner throughout most the Texas winter to keep a majority of the debris out of the pool. The cartridges don’t have as good a flow through while cleaning them as when I have started and I have noticed a slight decrease in the pick up rate of the cleaner. Given the limited capacity for leaves and the propensity for my neighbors tree to drop them I would often do a quick leaf scoop by hand before turning this guy on. I will definitely be upgrading to the debris bag for the next offseason. This device has proven worth the added expense and I am expecting much greater capacity with that optional piece.

A few months ago I performed a thorough cleaning of the unit taking apart several of the components to clean out debris that had lodged in with the rollers. Most importantly I cleaned out the impeller shaft by removing the plastic screen on top of the unit. This is done by removing two screws and prying out the plastic screen piece. Once its off you can remove of anything that has gotten wrapped up. I had hair wrapped up on the impeller (could be the dog, could be from people hard to say…:). Obviously do this with the thing unplugged. I did not see any concern with the rollers or other components that might wear out. I do keep it in my garage between cleanings. I will update again if I get the debris bag or have any issues.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This has made my ritual weekend pool cleaning sessions a 10 minute event versus 2 hours plus. First thing Saturday mornings I roll the dolphin out on its convenient caddy. As others have noted, the mostly plastic caddy flexes more than one would like, this seems to be in the top plastic handle which is mounted on an aluminum extrusion. The caddy serves as storage for the power pack and its cord wrap, the dolphin cleaner and the cleaner’s power cable which is wrapped in a foam rubber material so it floats. The front of the top handle has an extension that the 40′ or so of the cleaner cord convenient loops around. To get it all going I simply unwrap the 6 foot or so power pack cable and plug it into my GFCI outlet near my pool. Next I unload the cleaner from the caddy, flip it over to install and latch the removable filter (more on that below), and slowly lower it into the pool while tilting side to side to get all the air out. Once the cleaner gently floats to the bottom I unwrap a majority of the cleaner cord and let coil on the water surface. You then just press the button on the power pack and let the cleaner do its thing. This whole setup process takes a leisurely 5 minutes or so.

The cleaner runs for about 3 hours randomly going back and forth across the pool. I have a kidney shaped pool, about 35 x 18 with a set of steps in the shallow end and a bench along the wall in the deep end. The dolphin is designed so it just barely sinks; under water the weight of the thing isn’t much. This is so that it can easily climb the walls and, in theory, clean your tile as well. Once the pump turns on, which appears to be about a 2″ diameter impeller on top of the cleaner, the outflow pushes the cleaner to the pool surface and the intake vacuums through the four filters in its base. The waterline cleaning feature is one of the main distinctions between this model and the next lower slightly cheaper version. It definitely spends some of its time scooting along the waterline cleaning the tile. It can’t do this above the steps or the bench in my pool and ultimately I am not sure how useful this feature truly is.

As far as the pool steps go, the dolphin does get up and vacuum the lowest couple steps, it does not get the top couple steps or the top of the bench in the deep end. With these slight negatives being considered the job it does on every other part of the pool is phenomenal. It does not have a high capacity for leaves, I would say at most about a 10 or so medium (palm/hand sized) leaves can get vacuumed up before it really starts to affect its ongoing cleaning performance. It has two filter types, a fine plastic mesh and a pleated heavy paper like filter. The plastic mesh is for ‘opening’ your pool or if you have a lot of larger particle dirt. The pleated paper filters seem to be just like what a cartridge filter uses and does an excellent job of getting fine particles, dirt and sand.

Once the dolphin has run its course I simple do everything above in reverse to pack it up. Once the filter assembly is removed from the bottom of the cleaner it is easy to unlatch the four filter screens and quickly hose off the filtered gunk and remove any captured leaves or other debris. The latches are all designed to be quick release and easy maintenance. This whole process takes another 5 to 10 minutes (depending on the amount of dirt to clean out). I usually set the filters…
