   I initially bought this mask to help with cleaning odors. I was tasked with cleaning filthy white boards at work with this horrible smelling cleaner. The mask worked like a charm. A couple weeks later the was some mechanical work being done and the place I was working was flooded with the scent of burning metal. I could scarcely breathe. Again this mask worked wonders.
   And even after a year this mask still helps with stinky tasks (like scooping a very smelly litter box). I should probably buy a new one, but it still seems to be working good.

   I did store the mask back in its original plastic container though. The plastic snaps back into place pretty easily. This way when you aren’t using the mask it won’t be absorbing closet or cupboard odors.

   I went into Harbor Freight with this on and it did a really good job, if you take the time to fit it properly around your nose it seals well and reduces odor a lot. I don’t do well with chemicals and could see this helping reduce the impact though I don’t think it would work long term. I have tried the carbon nose filters, my nose isn’t round enough for those so this is the most discreet option I’ve found.

   I’m very chemically sensitive and live in a duplex and my neighbor is painting with standard latex paint (not zero VOC), causing me a lot of throat/sinus/eye irritation. I had been using N95 masks from Walgreens, which I think blocked most of the fumes, but the 3M one is MUCH more comfortable (comfortable enough to sleep in) and since it contains carbon, I believe it to be better at absorbing the irritating VOCs. So far, I highly recommend it; I’m glad this affordable product was available.
